A question about Law and Order SVU?

Wasn't SVU originally intened to have a darker, and more violent tone to the show at the beginning of its production? In my opinion, the show's become more, and more unoriginal. The plots, and characters have become more predictable, and the show has become more of a mindless, overtly dramatic, and violent Hollywood soap opera action movie oriented TV show where the characters are portrayed to their stereotypical cliched ways. I'm just giving out my opinion. I just think the show has a lot of cliches.
